We are happy to announce the Fourth Annual Jimmie Lou Fisher ~ Lottie Shackelford Dinner will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wyndham Hotel located at 2 Riverfront Place in North Little Rock. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
The 2017 honorees will be announced in the coming days. You don’t want to miss this amazing celebration of Arkansas women who have done incredible things for the Democratic Party.
This annual Democratic Women’s Dinner highlights issues that matter to Arkansas women. Jimmie Lou Fisher and Lottie Shackelford have blazed the trail for Arkansas women. Fisher was the second woman elected to a constitutional office in Arkansas and served 22 years as State Treasurer. She was the first woman to run for Governor of Arkansas as a major party nominee.
Lottie Shackelford was the first woman elected Mayor of Little Rock, served as Chair of the Democratic Party of Arkansas and is the longest serving Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee. President Clinton appointed her to the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, making her the first African American woman to serve in that capacity. In 2014, Shackelford was elected chair of the National Democratic Women’s Caucus. Both women have been life-long activists for the Democratic Party.
In keeping with the legacies of the dinner’s namesakes, this evening honors women who have dedicated their lives and careers to public service in Arkansas and have helped advance Democratic ideals and policy.
Previous honorees include the Honorable Jimmie Lou Fisher, the Honorable Lottie Shackelford, the Honorable Johnnie Roebuck, the Honorable Mary Louise Williams, the Honorable Kathy Webb, the Honorable Charlotte Schexnayder and the Honorable Ernestine Weaver.
With warm regards,
Vincent Insalaco, Chairman
Democratic Party of Arkansas
