A little over a week ago, we came together to set a new course for the future of the Arkansas Democratic Party and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead this charge. Your confidence in me is humbling and the support that so many of you have offered to myself and the new executive officers during this pivotal time has been remarkable.
I’ve spent the last week assessing the internal workings of our party and identifying the challenges that we must face within so that we can truly be the strong, innovative, and future-focused institution that can promote Democratic values throughout the state. During this time, I have continued my travels to various functions that celebrate the hard work and care that so many of you continue to pour into this cause and I am deeply encouraged. Our team is strong and our future is bright.
As you know, the political landscape of Arkansas has changed and not for the better. Republicans are currently riding high on the victories achieved by their party during the 2016 election cycle but people are quickly coming to see the bill of goods they’ve been sold. The recklessness of the Trump administration and the ideological factions that have fractured state legislatures are driving record numbers of new members into Democratic institutions across the country. Our county committees are no exception to this and my vision is to create a state party that exists to serve our hardworking counties and the tireless candidates that step up to champion our values.
To this end, I am establishing a Committee for the Future – a group tasked with listening to all county committees and Democratic elected officials across Arkansas. The information they gather will be used to formulate a plan of action to provide our county committees with the tools and resources they need to be most effective. The members of this committee will be announced in the coming days along with the members of my transition team, which will be led by Jessica DeLoach Sabin. If you have any questions, please send them her way (Jessica@arkdems.org) or call (501) 765-2677.
I want to congratulate Denise Garner on an outstanding campaign and for her commitment to the Democratic Party. She has always been a fierce advocate for the people of this state and the passion she consistently displays for this cause reflects the heart of a true public servant. She is one of a kind and I appreciate her leadership.
Lastly, I want to thank you for your dedication to the Democratic Party. We have a lot of work ahead of us but the common goals that drive us also unite us. We are a family and we will face each challenge together, and I will begin by creating a more open, transparent, and communicative environment in which to do so.
Yours in Service,
Michael John Gray
Chairman, Democratic Party of Arkansas
